Where is New Employee Orientation held?*

In Cambridge on the third floor of 124 Mt. Auburn St. which is very close to Harvard Square. Walking and driving directions are available.

* Please note that many schools and departments at Harvard hold local orientation sessions for new employees. Although these sessions may include some University-wide information, they do not provide an extensive benefits presentation or an overview of the University. Attendance at the University’s New Employee Orientation in Cambridge is strongly encouraged.

How often is New Employee Orientation held?

Three to four Mondays each month. The New Employee Orientation page has a list of dates. Sessions run from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A continental breakfast is available at 8:45 a.m.

Registration is required to attend New Employee Orientation. Please refer to the registration process described below.

What topics are covered at Orientation?

The University’s New Employee Orientation introduces the structure and culture of Harvard University, the challenges and opportunities of being a new Harvard employee and a chance to meet other new employees. You will learn about the benefits, services and perks that Harvard offers and have plenty of opportunities to ask questions. At most sessions, a representative from Harvard's largest union (the Harvard Union of Clerical and Technical Workers) will offer a brief overview.

How do you register?

Registration is required to attend New Employee Orientation. Employees from the Longwood Medical Area will be registered for New Employee Orientation through their local human resources office. Others may register themselves or another employee for an upcoming session by emailing CWD at training@harvard.edu with the following information:

  • The new employee’s name, title, and school/department;
  • A telephone number and an email address where the new employee can be reached; and
  • The date the new employee would prefer to attend orientation. View the New Employee Orientation page for a list of specific dates.

CWD will email the employee (using the email address provided in the registration request) to confirm the date of the orientation session for which he or she has been registered.

While CWD will do everything it can to accommodate first choices, please understand that space is limited and spots fill up quickly.

What should I bring to the session?

You are not required to bring anything to the session, however it is helpful to bring your Benefits Choices packet if you have received it.

Speak with your department administrator or someone in your local human resources office, or contact the Benefits Services Group at 617-496-4001.
